Last night we went out to dinner with some friends and on the way home a skunk darted out in front of me. Living in the Texas hill country we have hit our share of deer and taken on quiet a bit of damage to our vehicles. When a deer runs out into the road I just slow down and hit them head on. There's no sense in swerving because you don't know what the animal is going to do, who is already pretty freaked out as it is, and plus it's not worth doing more damage to the car by running off the road or worse, flipping it in a ditch. A skunk, that's another story. I will swerve and drive off the road to avoid hitting a skunk. There is no amount of money that could ever get that horrible stench out of the interior and the a/c ducts. Holy crap. Can you imagine? Tyson had a run in with a skunk a couple years ago and it took me weeks to get it out of him. Poor baby, he didn't even want to smell himself. Anyway, last night a skunk darted out in front of me and I hit the breaks and swerved enough to miss him but not enough to hit the ditch...so, that was a huge bonus.
Thanks for reading my boring post. lol. I'm currently watching a show about "Hoarders" so you might be reading about how overwhelmed I am right now. lol.
the house across the street used to be home to a 90 year old who had a home helper that took care of things. She claimed to always wanted to be a country farm girls so she fed all of the outside animals. Well she decided to start feeding the cats at 9 pm. Which meant that she was feeding the skunks and opposums too. I have been called outside many a night to cap a skunk that was in the garage.
ReplyDeleteLOL! Now that is kind of funny. She wanted to be a farm girl, so she feeds all of the animals and calls you to put a "cap" in the skunk that gets inside her garage...who was probably just looking for more food.
ReplyDeleteYeah up here in the deep freeze, shelter and food is a huge factor for outside animals. Neighbor has a shed (that used to be a bell tower for a church that was torn down) where the skunks have dug an access hole to live underneath. There is a cross beam for the floor so the cats live on one side and the skunks live on the other. In between skunk populations the opposums live in the skunk side condo. When the momma skunk moves back in she eats the opposum. I kinda like skunks since they are great mousers and rodent eaters. I have seen them catch and eat rabbits along with smaller game and rodents like rats and mice. The draw back is the smell factor. Which is a huge.
